Alexandra Watt; Be Inspired By Her Online Photo Album.
Meet Alexandra Watt, who is 24 years old and is from Edinburgh. She has really struggled to find something to do, she studied a degree in International Events Management, however, dropped out. Recently, she has started working in recruitment, as her sister and her sisters partner opened up their own company. In her own words ‘family is a huge part of life to me, I’m nothing without my friends and family and they are a massive support system for me.’ She loves to travel, learn new experiences and would love to do something fashion oriented in the future.
TELL THE READERS ABOUT YOUR INSTAGRAM, IS THERE A THEME AND MOOD? DO YOU HAVE ANY SPECIFIC INSTA TIPS?
‘My Instagram feed doesn’t really have a mood or a theme. It’s definitely changed over the years especially if you go back you’d see that is was a bit crazy and all over the place. My Instagram was first made just for fun, I made it years and years ago now. And if you were to scroll back, you’d have a bit of a laugh, I’ve got some really funny photos on there. I hate deleting pictures. I kept them all up just for future reference and to have a bit of an online photo album of my younger years. I’m still learning a lot about the platform, what is good, what is bad, what I like and dislike. Especially now during this lockdown I’m aiming for more of a theme In the last couple of months, I found a filter I really like and I’m really trying to stick to that, as well using lighting the same way, and figure out how I can work that well into my Instagram...
I don’t have any tips for it, I just think post what you want, how you want and gain inspiration from others. It’s kind of like when you get dressed in the morning, you put on what you want to wear regardless of someone else liking it and that should be the same on your Instagram feed, just put what you want out there and if it inspires people that’s great, if it doesn’t it’s for yourself. For me, that won’t change, as I’m doing it for myself. I’m finding using this filter and the light the same way it is giving a really aesthetically pleasing feed which I really like, and a lot of people look into that. I follow so many bloggers myself, I see that it is all about finding inspiration, getting ideas and using it to your advantage.’
IN LOCKDOWN, WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO CREATE GOOD CONTENT? HOW DO YOU KEEP YOURSELF INSPIRED?
‘Trying to keep myself inspired during this crazy time is difficult for sure. I have down days, bad days and sad moments. But you have to look at the positivities in life and stay grateful for what you have. I would say that I try to keep myself inspired, by Pinterest, I have so many things saved on my Pinterest. I follow loads of other bloggers that I get inspiration from and even going online and looking at clothes, I see colours that go, colours that match, poses that I like from them doing modelling shoots, so I try to figure out how I could make that work, and do my sort of thing about it. I luckily have a lot of loungewear that I love, so I can mix and match clothes, turn it up. My mum is also an inspiration, my mums house is just gorgeous, and she has such a good eye for stuff. I’m definitely trying to incorporate the neutral tones that she has and put that in my pictures, in both background and my outfits.’
WHAT ELSE ARE YOU DOING IN LOCKDOWN THAT YOU THINK THE READERS WILL BE INSPIRED NOW AND LATER ON 2020?
‘Like everyone during this lockdown, I’m just trying to keep myself as occupied as possible. I’ve actually recently bought a tie-dye kit and some joggers, and will try and do that myself. I’m trying to do a body pump class, my mum has got me in to yoga and body balance. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not doing it every day, there are days where I’ve got no motivation, but there are days that I do, and I get up and I try to stay positive that way. Other than that I’m baking again, which I haven’t done since early teens and I used to love it, and it’s quite fun, positive and it’s good to have the tasty treats at the end. I am just trying to take in this precious time with my parents, and learn new things from them, learn more about them, have a better bond with them over this period of time. I know it’s crazy but you’ve got to also look on the positive side, and see the simple things that are important, look at the good not at that bad. I’d actually love to do a written blog, I’ve wanted to do it for so long. I am trying to get myself inspired to do this at the moment, and have something positive to look at after lockdown.’
WHERE DO YOU WANT YOUR 2020 TO BE GOING, WHAT ARE YOUR PLANS?
‘Where do I want my 2020 to be going. I mean, I’d say I’m not one to make goals or plans, I think I really struggled to find what I want to do, and what I like to do. But I’ve always known that fashion is something that I’ve been really interested in. To be honest, if I could do this blog and get that written, it would be a massive achievement. It’s obviously not easy but it’s not for anyone else it’s for me. I’ve always been a bit nervous to do it, but I have gained so much confidence over the last couple of years from my Instagram and I have come into contact with so many lovely people, just like yourself Molly, that have built up my confidence. I think Instagram can be a horrible place at times, like everywhere online, but there is also so many good people out there who are willing to support you, and support what you want to do. So I think if I could just inspire people more in the next year, even if its 1 person, 2 people, 3 people, whatever it is, that would be good for me. I want to grow my Instagram, and do something more in fashion industry, who knows what will happen. It’s a crazy time, and things might change in terms of Instagram and how it’s being used. So I mean right now I just want to, stay healthy, stay happy and I want the same for my family and friends. I want to create more content I love, and just express myself more, show people who I really am, and do it because I enjoy it.’
WHERE DO YOU WANT TO BE HEADING WITH YOUR PERSONAL BLOG PAGE ON INSTAGRAM?
‘I’d love to grow this, I’d love to have a big community on my Instagram, and be able to inspire like other bloggers inspire me. Even if it is so just make someone laugh, smile or find a bit more confidence in themselves. I think that would be really great, but I just want to continue to do this, and loving what I do. I just find it a lot of fun, it keeps me occupied, and I like to learn from other people, their backgrounds, places they’ve been and what they do, how they do things. It brings a bit of normality into my life, for sure, at the moment. That is what everyone needs right now.
I don’t want to be a model, or anything, that’s not what I'm wanting to do, I just like to put out pictures, show them my outfits. I think when you see these bloggers, on these amazing trips, experience all these new experiences, I think it looks amazing. People always say you should do what you love, and try to make it to a job. When I see those bloggers, I think it looks like something I’d really enjoy and something I’d gain a lot out. For me, it’s not about the free stuff offered, it’s just about learning from everyone, just finding new ways to do things, see things, and I just think that would be a really great thing. I would really enjoy that lifestyle, and really find myself and what I want to do, and how I to incorporate that into my life. If there’s something you want to do, just go for it, just take life as it comes.’
LASTLY, WHERE DO YOU WANT TO BE IN 5 YEARS? HOW DO YOU THINK YOU CAN ACHIEVE THIS?
‘Wow, what a question. 5 years’ time from now feels like a really long time away, especially right now. Like I’ve said I would love to be more involved with fashion, whatever that may be, but I can’t say I have a massive 5 year plan, maybe that’s something I should start to look into during this lockdown. I know consistency is key, and so is believing in yourself. So if in 5 years’ time, I can be in an even better mindset, and be happy, that would be an awesome place to be, keeping family and friends close, and keeping positive people around you would be great place to be in 5 years. I’ve just got to take things day by day and see where things take me.’
