Style By Flossie, Her Guide to Vegan and Cruelty Free Favourites.

Meet Antonia (a.k.a Flossie), the 22 year old blogger from Leeds. She is currently learning how to move towards a sustainable wardrobe, and writes passionately about vegan and cruelty-free beauty. In her words 'no animal- humans included- should have to suffer for style or beauty.'

WHY DID YOU START YOUR BLOG, WHAT IS THE BACKGROUND AND THEME?

‘To answer your first your question, there is a bit of story behind it. I originally started a blog in 2015 which isn’t the same blog I have now. I was really obsessed with beauty at the time. But in 2016 I changed my lifestyle and became vegan, and lost interest in makeup because I realised a load of the brands that I liked and used didn’t fall into that. I lost my way and I didn’t know what to write, and gave up for a while.

I then started my current blog stylebyflossie in 2018 and I wanted it to be more fashion focused, but also focus on cruelty free and vegan beauty products, now that I have a better understanding of it. I’m kind of like getting more into sustainable fashion, it’s a learning progress and I didn’t want to give up like I did on my first blog instead of getting flustered and quitting, now I’m trying to trust the process. I try and write what I’m learning as I go that’s helped a lot. When I started this blog in 2018, I had jaw surgery that year and I didn’t blog all of 2019 but my New Year’s Resolution was to post every week, from the start of the year which I have been doing.’

YOU MENTION YOU ARE VEGAN AND CARE ABOUT CRUELTY FREE PRODUCTS, ARE THERE ANY SPECIFIC BEAUTY PRODUCTS YOU WANT TO SHARE?

‘I have picked out 4 products that I am loving, that are cruelty free and vegan. One of my favourite moisturisers, that has been for quite a few years now is the Liz Earle Skin Repair Moisturiser for normal and combination skin. It is so lightweight, I hate having heavy products on my face. Another product is the Gallinee Foaming Facial Cleanser for sensitive skin, which is so nice. I had never heard of this brand until Christmas, it was a gift I got, and I actually love it. It feels light, and it really deep cleans.

Another product is the Dr Paw Paw Original Balm, this is like a multipurpose balm, it’s moisturising for skin, lips, hair and cuticles on your nails. It has repaired my lips in like 2 days, which is amazing as I’m a chronic lip biter, but this is the only vegan lip balm (most have beeswax in them), and actually works. Another product is the Kat Von D perfume called Saint, a lot of their high end perfumes are animal tested so every time I go into the store or into Boots, I can’t actually buy. I had to do a bit of research, and found out they do their own perfumes, Saint is my favourite as it is sweet.'

WHAT DO YOU NORMALLY EAT IN A DAY?

‘I always have the same breakfast and lunchtime every day. For breakfast I normally have a Belvita soft bakes, the filled hazelnut ones at about 8 in the morning, which lasts me until lunchtime. My lunch is a Quorn chicken sandwich, with nothing else. Usually my dinner that’s a bit more interesting, which I vary. One of my favourite meals at the moment is a chickpea kurma curry, it has like a few different veggies in, curry paste, soya cream and milk and obviously chickpeas. It is honestly amazing, so tasty. We also have like chilli, nachos, I also tend to eat children’s meals, like Quorn chicken nuggets and smiley faces. For snacks, I tend to eat Pringles and maybe some fruit.’

WHAT ARE YOU ESSENTIAL CRUELTY FREE AND VEGAN MAKEUP PRODUCTS? ANY RECOMMENDATIONS?

The most essential beauty product that I have in my makeup bag, which I repurchase all the time, is the Kat Von D Tattoo Liner, it is jet black and its super precision. I do really giant wings, and I need that precision and ease of drawing it on my face. It obviously is cruelty free and vegan, I haven’t used another eyeliner I like as much as this one and I haven’t purchased another since I’ve bought this product. Another product is the Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer, which is less than £5, which means you don’t dread repurchasing. The only drawback is the limited shades, so this product isn’t very inclusive. However, it is vegan and cruelty free. A recent favourite is the Fenty Beauty Foundation, it is the hydrating one, not the original one as I tested it on my hand and I thought it was so heavy, I hated it. But this is one much more lighter, which is preferably to me, and the shade range is insane. It doesn’t go orange on my face, which I really appreciate. I recommend if you are going to buy it, use a beauty blender as makeup brushes don’t go well with it. The first time I tried with a brush it left brush strokes behind. A lipstick I love and wear pretty much all the time is the Jeffree Star Liquid Lipstick in Leo, I really love this shade, it is in a brown-y orange. It stays on for ages, it is lightweight, and doesn’t transfer, it is so well made. One of my favourite products is the Too Faced Hangover Primer, again there is a theme it is so light, really moisturising and it is silicone free. I love it.’

WHERE DO YOU WANT YOUR BLOG TO BE HEADING IN THE FUTURE?

‘I think every bloggers dream, is to become a full time blogger and have people read their blogs. I do have some readers, and a lot of my real life friends read it, which is lovely. It would be nice to have a bigger audience, to be trusted, and think of me when they think of themes like sustainable fashion, vegan and cruelty free beauty. I also do advice posts which I’d like people to come to me and ask for my opinions. The real dream is to do this full time, and not work in an office anymore.’
