Style By Soph, Introducing The New Tie Dye Brand.

Meet Sophie Scott, a Fashion Student, based in Poole that has recently started up her own tie-dying business, Style By Soph. At 21 years old she has moved from Devon to Dorset to pursue her dream career in fashion, and trailing her own business is the first step to success.

TELL THE READERS ABOUT STYLE BY SOPH, WHAT IS THE BACKGROUND OF THE BRAND?

'I have always loved fashion, since studying textiles & art at school I dreamed of pursuing a dream in fashion design since a young age. However, as I grew older I realised that the business side of fashion was more of a match for me, and started a degree course in Fashion Marketing, at the Fashion Retail Academy in London. After a crazy start to the year, losing my job (working in Hospitality + COVID = bad mix), lockdown and studying from home, I needed to vent out my creativity, which led me to Style By Soph.'

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE TIE-DYE, AND WHAT IS THE PROCESS?

'Tie-Dye has made such a comeback in recent months, so I decided it was the best ‘trend’ to pursue. I use a variety of colours and generally spend most my time in the garden using ridiculous amounts of elastic bands & dyes to create the perfect patterns. Once they have been left to soak in the dye for up to 24 hours I remove the elastic bands, and if I’m not happy with the pattern I’ll add more in particular spots that need it. Overall it is a relaxing process and I enjoy making all my products.'

WHAT OTHER DESIGNS AND PRODUCTS ARE YOU AIMING FOR?

'I can’t wait for the winter season, when I can start doing joggers, sweaters and so much more loungewear! I’d also love to do some hand embroidery, as I used to love doing it as a hobby, but it is time-consuming, so definitely a future goal of mine! I’d also like to expand my size range, with being a new small business it’s difficult to stock all sizes, however, I do state that any size can be made to order.'

WHAT DO YOU WANT TO ACHIEVE WITH THE BRAND IN THE NEAR FUTURE?

'My main goal is to grow my following, to increase my customer base and just have more potential consumers that I can share my content with. I would also like to add more products, especially coming into the autumn I have some really cool ideas I’d love to progress with!'

FOR READERS WHO MIGHT WANT TO START THEIR OWN BUSINESS, WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE?

'Just go for it! I had this idea about two weeks before launching and just decided if not now then when? It’s a lot of work so make sure you have the time to create products that you can be proud of, and that you would wear. Also, don’t stress too much about figures at the start, it’s inevitable that you are going to have a lot more outgoing’s in the first few months, just focus on growing your business. My top tips would be to use social media as much as you can, create your own branding and make sure to post regular content!'

WHERE DO YOU SEE YOURSELF IN THE NEXT 5 YEARS? WHAT ARE YOUR GOALS?

'In 5 years I’ll be 26!! I will have finished my degree and I would love to be working with a luxury fashion brand, maybe doing PR or Journalism work, however, I’m not entirely sure. I always try not to stress too much about the future and take it one day at a time. My goals are to be living in a coastal town, with a job I love and just be happy (as cliche as it sounds)!'
