Summer Jade - Ceo of Bargaining, Talking Style and Her Series #rehashyourtrash.
Meet Summer, a fashion instagrammer and graphic designer based in Brighton. Her main aim is to inspire and empower other amazing talented women out there and get them excited about their clothes again! In her own words 'I love charity shopping and affordable style and I like to encourage others to do the same'.
TELL THE READERS ABOUT YOUR CREATIVE PLATFORMS INCLUDING @SUMMERJADESTYLE AND @SUMMERJADECREATIVE? WHAT IS THE BACKGROUND OF EACH PLATFORM?
‘I have two Instagram accounts, @summerjadestyle is the fashion account I started in 2018 and I started that just because I’ve always loved fashion, and I wanted to start sharing my outfits, and put my style out there and over the years I’ve learnt and discovered my own style and how to use social media. I started @summerjadecreative properly at the end of 2019. That account was to start having a creative outlet, and I wanted to start posting my art, and from that I turned it into a business, which is now a graphic design and illustrator business, I am all self-taught and I love doing that so much.’
WHAT IS YOUR THEME AND MOOD OF YOUR INSTAGRAM? WHAT SUBJECTS DO YOU INCLUDE?
'So for my style account, my theme is all about affordable style and realistic lives. I want to be relatable, I want people to come across my Instagram and not feel like its another fake person on this platform. I want to be a real person, I want to be myself and I think it is really nice to spread the love of affordable fashion because not everyone has a million pounds to spend on clothes every week, so that is why I push my content to be all about affordable style and charity shopping which helps the environment. I definitely promote body confidence, self love and positivity. I quite often talk about it in my captions. I don't hesitate to come onto my stories and talk about how I am feeling that day, if I'm pretty bad about myself then I'll come on. That is what people relate to and I want people to come to me, talk to me if they need to. I want to boost peoples confidence and empower other women.'
YOU DESRCRIBE YOURSELF AS A ‘CEO OF BARGAINS AND THRIFTING’ , WHERE DO YOU GO TO SHOPPING? WHAT ARE YOUR TIPS AND TRICKS?
‘I do describe myself as the CEO of bargains and thrifting, that is because I absolutely love charity shopping. It wasn’t until last year that I started promoting that on my style account because before that I was embarrassed of that, and now I realised it is something I should be proud of and encourage others to do, it is so good for the environment, it is so much better than buying brand new, and you can really be creative which I really love.
People always ask where I shop and the main trick is being creative; look in the men’s section, look in section that might not be your size, be creative. The amount of the times I bought a men’s XL shirt, and made it into a shirt dress, a women trousers that were way to big and taken them in. you got to get creative, and that is the fun part of it, you can creative anything from a £2 pound top you just bought, that is what I love.’
CAN YOU TELL THE READERS ABOUT #REHASHYOURTRASH? WHAT IS THE BACKGROUND, PURPOSE AND HOW CAN THEY GET INVOLVED?
‘So #rehashyourtrash is a series I started a few weeks ago, and is all about reloving your wardrobe. I found that I got stuck in a rut where I was really not feeling my outfits, my clothes in my wardrobe I got bored of it. I think in the current situation and being in lockdown, everyone is in a similar position, waking up and putting joggers on every day, and just feeling a lack of inspiration for fashion so that is why I started this series. I wanted to inspire people to actually get up, and put on a new fun piece of clothing each day to rediscover their clothing and get excited about styling again. I am a currently doing a challenge where I am setting a piece of clothing each day, and the challenge is you have to find that piece of clothing for instance an old top that you haven’t worn for ages, pop it on and style it, fresh and new and fall in love with it again. I might continue this challenge as I really enjoyed doing it, but always generally declutter your wardrobe and #rehashyourtrash, and in my captions I have a lot of tips on how to declutter your wardrobe and tips to do it the right way, and DIY tips, and read these if needed. Just generally grab an old piece, restyle it and add the hashtag.’
WHERE DO YOU WANT YOUR INSTAGRAM BLOG PAGE TO GO IN THE FUTURE? AND WHAT ARE YOUR DREAM GOALS?
‘I really love this question. My dream goals would be to keep growing, to keep inspiring other people, to do big collaborations with magazines to really promote my message out there and really like empower and inspire other people, that is my main goal. If I can keep doing that, and keep pushing that, that would make me happy at the end of the day. With my creative account, it is my business I would love that to keep growing and growing until I am able to fully sustain my life.’
