Alice Hope's Travel Tips.
Meet Alice Hope, a fashion, beauty and travel blogger based in Birmingham and Peterborough. She is currently a student, who has been blogging for the last two years. She wold describe herself as 'a creative enthusiastic blogger with a slight obsession with fashion and a love for sandy white beaches.' Whether it's styling tips, or Europe trips, Alice's blog is her place to write about everything that she loves, and subjects that mean something to her.
TELL ME ALL ABOUT YOUR BLOG? WHAT IS YOUR THEME?
‘I started not on Instagram, but on WordPress probably about 2 years ago, and that was just due to being inspired from university. I wanted to write about my experience of first year, as it wasn’t as easy or amazing as it's been made out. Therefore, I wanted to write about things people had never spoken about university before. It was originally a personal thing, I never shared it, as I was too scared. But then the more I was writing, I was like well someone might as well read it… I started posting more and then I eventually created my blog Instagram page. That was when I went on my year abroad so at first made my blog very travel-based. I never put pictures of myself on there, as I was too scared, I just did travel posts, but the more I did the more I descended into fashion, beauty and all that stuff. I now go out content shooting at least once every 2 weeks, I have less of the travel posts but that’s mainly due to the fact I’m not travelling at the moment as I’m at university.'
I WAS LOOKING AT YOUR BLOG & INSTAGRAM, AND YOU HAVE GROWN IN YOUR CONFIDENCE WHICH IS LOVELY TO SEE. HOW AND WHY?
‘Oh wow thank you, but it’s true. People say Instagram makes them less confident, I do understand that I still get like that like everybody else. But overall through my blogging, it has definitely made me confident. Like from the beginning, you can see that in my older photos, that I was a lot less than confident than I am now so yeah its definitely good.'
SO YOU MENTIONED THAT YOU WENT AWAY TRAVELLING, CAN YOU TELL THE READERS WHERE YOU HAVE BEEN, YOUR FAVOURITE LOCATIONS AND WHY?
‘So basically, throughout my whole life I only ever went to France, as my family live there. So we went there every single year and never went anywhere else. Also I do French in university and I had to do a year abroad, which I obviously wanted to. I went to Toulouse in the South of France, which was just insane. It is one of my favourite cities in France, next to Paris because I love Paris. So during that year, I kind of explored loads of different places in France, I went to Andorra which has an amazing spa there which was so cool.
I’ve gone to France, and it was one of my favourite countries. I also went to Greece this year, I went a wedding for three weeks. We went to Crete, Athens and Siros. Crete and Siros were amazing, Siros is such a beautiful island, as it is quieter. I think it’s so lovely and calming when there’s clear blue water….
However, I’m like half a city girl, like Budapest and Barcelona which is one of my favourite trips ever as there is so much to do. But I also do love the beaches, and the pretty water. I’ve done more of the city stuff, but I plan to do more beach holidays someday...'
WHERE WOULD YOU LOVE TO GO, WHAT WOULD YOUR TOP HOLIDAY DESTINATION?
‘The next one I want to go to is Italy because I just want the food, it’s so cliché. But I really love pasta, I am so desperate, it's literally my favourite food ever and I just know nothing will compare. I want to go to Italy because of that, and there’s some amazing places to visit But also I want to go to Bali.. as it is very Instagram-able.'
WHAT ARE YOUR TRAVEL ESSENTIALS?
‘My first one is so stupid and obvious but a luggage tag because one time on a train someone went off the train with my suitcase thinking it was theirs, I had to run off the train and get it from them! So now I have loads of luggage tags, because I’m so stupid. Another travel essential is sun cream because I'm so pale and I burn so badly so I need to put a lot of sun cream….
I'm saying the most obvious things, like luggage tags and sun-cream. But also a killer pair of Cat Eye sunglasses (mine is from Primark), like they are always the best and probably one of those big cool floppy Straw Hats (mine is from H&M) because a) they get really good photos, b) and good for protecting you… in order of importance.’
SO YOU’VE JUST BECOME A BOOHOO INFLUENCER, A #SKINFLUENCER, AND YOU HAVE RECENTLY BEEN REPOSTED ON H&M's INSTAGRAM. WHERE DO YOU WANT EVERYTHING TO GO?
‘It’s a hard question, as I don’t have a final goal. I don’t sit there and think i'm going to be an influencer that’s not what I think, I’m quite realistic and I have other aspirations. My goal is to never stop blogging, as I really love doing it, and to make sure I keep up the writing, because I’ve managed to keep that going the whole time… I never want to lose that part of blog, as not many people keep that going anymore, as are more Instagram focused, therefore I’m a bit different as its preserving blogging part. Basically, just keep doing it, keep growing but I’m not obsessed with gaining followers, just letting it happen when it happens. If you just focus on the content, and engaging with people like talking to loads of people, I talk to you loads, the followers will come whenever. Growing but I’m not obsessed with growing, but I just want to continue this as I love it, it is my favourite thing’.
